Instructors:
Myron Dang, OTR/L holds a masters degree in occupational therapy. He is a pediatric occupational therapist and is co-owner of Generation Sense, a pediatric integrative therapy service. He has experience treating children who have difficulties with: motor control, motor planning, low muscle tone, sensory processing, self-regulation, focus/attention, and low self-esteem. He has treated children in many different settings that include: private clinic, home, school, community parks, gymnastics gym, swimming pool and rehabilitation hospital.
Starting at a young age, Myron has always been involved with some form of martial art. His martial arts background consists of: Wing Chun, Tai Chi/Qi Gong, Shaolin Kung Fu, Lau Kune Do and Tae Kwon Do. He continues to be an avid student of the Wing Chun system and has discovered numerous health benefits from its philosophy and practice. With this in mind, he has found an enticing way to combine and incorporate martial arts philosophy with some of his children during one to one occupational therapy treatments.
Tannia Dang, MSOT is an occupational therapist and co-owner of Generation Sense. She has training in Neurodevelopmental Treatment and is currently a senior occupational therapist at Stanford Hospital. Her pediatric training began at the pediatric clinic of Florida International University working under the mentoring of her professors to treat children within the Autism spectrum, ADD/ADHD and working along therapists certified in sensory integration and ABA.
Her martial arts training began with Aikido, Thai Kick Boxing and now a disciplined practitioner of Wing Chun. Tannia emphasizes the importance of having a strong foundation and body awareness during all daily activities. She co-coordinates Ninja Skills for the Youthful Soul which provides a much needed yin yang balance to the group.
Course Overview:
The course will have five main objectives -- the Ninja Skills -- centered around self-regulation, eye hand motor coordination/planning, body awareness, self-control and self-esteem.
The sessions will maintain a routine structure starting out with deep breathing/meditation through Qi Gong techniques. Next, students will go into stretching and warm ups through martial arts applications and traditional kung fu movements. Students will then be taught the first Ninja Form. Forms are a sequential series of martial arts body movements that have been practiced for thousands of years for health benefits. The last segment of the session will focus on the weekly objective, the Ninja Skill. Students will be taught to use their Ninja Skill discipline as a means to deal with everyday difficulties. The session will wrap up with another round of Qi Gong deep breathing.
